City of Hobart Christmas

Christmas with a local flavour

In 2019, the City of Hobart commissioned a project called The 12 Days of Christmas. Cathy McAuliffe Design created a set of illustrations using Tasmanian native animals playing with Hobart's natural and built environments. Wrest Point, the Tasman Bridge, the Bridge of Remembrance and Federation Concert Hall were featured, alongside Tasmanian devils, bilbies, wombats and platypus. Local jokes and references were used in the images, created using digital illustration. The illustrations were created in a raw format, with Council's in-house designers then taking the assets for further design. This work was used over several years on banners, press, signage and print items. In 2021, a giant present made a mystery appearance around Hobart in the leadup to the launch of the Christmas Pageant.
